Felt Your Own Scarf with Long Valley Fiber Artists
Mon. Feb 7 & Wed. Feb 9, 6:30-8:30pm. Payette Lakes Middle School Art Room. All materials included, $25 Join experienced Long Valley fiber artists Phyllis Bulgin, Shelley Platt, and Elaine Duarte to learn the popular art of fiber-felting while creating your own unique and beautiful scarf. Students will each felt their own scarf using a silk & mohair base. Instructors will also demonstrate and teach the technique of "flower pounding" using fresh flowers to impart pigments and patterns to fiber as unique design elements.

Fine Art Photography with Tom Stewart
Tues. Feb 8, Thurs. Feb 10, & Tues. Feb 15, 7:00-8:30pm. Payette Lakes Middle School Art Room. $35 Photography has an venerable history as a fine art discipline, and basic design components remain an essential part of creating beautiful photographs, in spite of the variety of digital editing technologies now available. In this class, Brooks Institute-trained photographer, Tom Stewart, will discuss photography as a fine art discipline and share techniques and tips to broaden students' understanding and use of light and composition. Students are invited to bring their work in a digital format to the third session for feedback and direction.

Cake Decorating for Beginners
Saturday, Feb 12, 5:00-7:00pm. McCall Pottery Center, 115 Commerce St. $15 Join Cindy Leavitt and an accompanying certified Wilton Instructor, to learn cake decorating basics. Bring a frozen white cake to decorate, preferably two 8" or two 9" white cake rounds. Students will leave with basic tools to continue to develop their talents at home, along with their beautifully decorated cake.

Using Photoshop Elements: an Introduction with Howard Hamilton
Tues. Feb 22, Thurs. Feb 24, & Tues. March 1, 6:30-8:00pm. Payette Lakes Middle School Art Room. $35 This class, based on the latest version of Photoshop Elements, will include a presentation on the various aspects of transferring images to the computer, cataloguing, processing, and preparing for email, web, and printing. Image processing will include cropping, color adjustment, and many other powerful refinement techniques available with Photoshop Elements. Students will process a selected image during class, and prepare it for final printing. An inkjet print will then be produced for the student as a final product of the class. It is recommended, but not required, that a student bring a laptop computer to use during the class.
Long Valley Heritage Night: Winter Carnival
Sunday, Feb. 20, 6:30-8:30pm, Shore Lodge. FREE Folklore professor Lisa Gabbert from Utah State University will visit McCall to share her research on Winter Carnival's meaning, history & interesting highlights, assisted by a panel of our own old-time locals.
Professor Gabbert's book Winter Carnival in a Western Town: Conflict, Identity and the Good of the Community, will be published by Utah State University Press in April, 2011.

Seven Devils: a Photographic Journey
Date to be Announced. 7:00pm, Alpine Playhouse. FREE Join local Wilderness Volunteers leaders Dale Grooms and Debra Ellers for a beautiful photographic slide presentation on Idaho's Seven Devil Mountains. Wilderness Volunteers is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is stewardship of America's wild lands through organizing and promoting volunteer service in cooperation with public land agencies. For the last 10 years, Dale and Debra have been leading working volunteer trips into some of the most beautiful places in the West. This one-hour long slide show will highlight the beauty and work done in the Seven Devils, with discussion to follow. This presentation was offered to a standing-room only crowd recently at Boise's REI store. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about a wild jewel located only a few hours from McCall.
The Fine Art of Caribbean Cooking

She's back! In 2010, our cooking classes were the most popular of our Cabin Fever offerings. Now, Corinne Lewis returns in 2011 with two new fun classes sure to beat cabin fever. In this first class, students will learn to create authentic meals originating in the sunny Caribbean with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's own certified chef and French native, Corinne Lewis. Students will sample recipes and receive printed recipes to take home. Wine or beverage accompaniments will be suggested prior to each class. This class will likely fill early, so don't wait to register!

Ukulele in McCall: Workshop & Performance by Earl Mullins

What better way to beat the winter blues than to listen to the warm strumming of a tropical ukulele? Uke enthusiasts -- don't miss this unique opportunity to enhance your abilities and meet other McCall uke players at BUG's March 5th workshop. Don't have your own uke? If you're familiar with guitar, come anyway! The BUG will bring a few extra ukes with them. Earl Mullins is a professional musician experienced in both teaching and public performance. Learn to Knit

Lake St. $30 Knitting goddess Lynda Vgora will teach all the basics you need to begin a lifelong journey in knitting. Students will gather at Keep Me In Stitches (near Paul's Market) and learn basic terminology, tools, and stitches used in knitting.
Students will work on a scarf or a hat during class, with Lynda’s guidance. Includes a pair of knitting needles to keep and project yarn.

Creating Mandalas

Whirling Circles Studio 125E Commerce St. $30 Mandalas are an ancient and widespread art form used to focus attention and awareness through the use of the sacred symbol of wholeness -- the circle. In this class, local artist and healer, Uma Mulnick, will lead students through the creation of their own unique and beautiful mandalas. All materials included.

Boise Public Art: a Guided Walking Tour

Learn the basics of contour and gestural drawing and discover how to use light and shadow to create shape and form like a Renaissance master under the guidance of artist and arts educator, Debra Facchin. The Ancient Art of Bookbinding & Repair: a Demonstration

Introduction to Batik
Saturday, April 16, 9:00am-4:00pm. Whirling Circles Studio, 125E Commerce St. $50 Beat cabin fever with this hardy, day-long hands-on workshop designed to provide students with basic skills needed to practice batik art. Batik is a traditional art using a wax-resist method and a series of dyes to create patterns or pictures on fabric. Taught by veteran batik artist, arts educator, and Gallery 55 participating artist, Noreen Shanafelt.

Memoir: Writing the Story of a Lifetime

Using familiar works as a point of departure, students will use poetry & prose to begin creating written portraits of their own unique experiences.
